| Soldiers and anti-expulsion protesters pray together at Kfar Maimon. |

Soldiers of Israel: I had the privilege of teaching political science to Israeli officers for almost 20 years at Bar-Ilan University. Israeli officers are not tin soldiers; they do not march like Germans to the drum beat of a dictator. They are Jews: they love Justice more than Authority.
Soldiers of Israel: You are being ordered by the Government to expel Jews from their homes in Gush Katif. You will then have to tear babies from the arms of their mothers. You are being ordered to destroy flourishing Jewish communities. You will then be compelled to make many Jews homeless. You will not do this!
Soldiers of Israel: You are being ordered by the Government to deprive Jews of their livelihood. You are being ordered to deprive them of their civil rights. You are being ordered to violate the Torah, which alone preserved the Jewish people down through the centuries and made their return to Eretz Israel possible. You will not commit these crimes against your brothers and sisters.
Soldiers of Israel: You are being ordered by the Government to commit what is nothing less than a pogrom against your own people in Gaza and Northern Samaria. You will not do this. You will not repeat what Jew-haters have done to your people down through the ages.
Soldiers of Israel: You are not Germans who goose-step to the hup-hup-hup of Authority. You have not forgotten what the Germans did to the Jewish people. But now, let me fill in possible gaps in your memory. I want you to keep certain images in mind lest you obey the orders of a cruel and criminal Government.
Soldiers of Israel: Read this carefully, because countless Jews who perished in the Nazi Holocaust were actually betrayed by certain prestigious but unscrupulous Jewish leaders right here in Palestine, as you may learn by reading Ben Hecht?s Perfidy, from which I take the following:
Picture in your minds the hills of Jewish corpses -- the millions of mouth-open, skeletonized, naked cadavers in the death camps of Birkenau, Mauthhauzen, Dachau, Auschwitz; in the slaughter-pen towns of Lodz, Zamosi, Tarnow, Palmiry, Olkush; in the Polish meadows where thousands of naked mothers, carrying their naked babies, walked naked and shamed toward young Germans studying their pubic hair through machine gun sights; the blast after blast of bullets that splattered the meadow with thousands of infant brains and mother bellies; the myriad of dead girls hanging from street gibbets in Ustronic, Trunbunalski, Sornowuc as if a great puppet show had come to Poland -- these six million gaunt dead ones are known in all their Jack-straw postures; oozing skulls, interlaced pipe-stem arms and legs, torn breasts, hunger-hollowed bellies, and faces like an alphabet of despair with their millions of white teeth that look still terrified of life; this great and ancient people of Jews turned into garbage.
Soldiers of Israel: Read these words in the context of your own experience here in Israel; for the Arabs your Government is retreating from in Gaza and Northern Samaria?the Arabs whose suicide bombers have reduced Jewish men, women, and children to human debris, are the successors of the Nazis.
Soldiers of Israel: Do not be deceived by the lies of your Government. Did not your prime minister oppose the Left?s policy of Disengagement from Gaza in the January 2003 election, only to make it the centerpiece of his government?s program the following year? Does this not mark him as treacherous? Did he not say he would abide by the Likud referendum on Disengagement, only to renege when his Disengagement Plan was overwhelmingly defeated? Does this not mark him as a liar?
Soldiers of Israel: Know that the Jews were the first people that did not worship the state. I therefore urge you, as a former American officer, do not behave like robotic German soldiers. Do not sacrifice your conscience, your humanity, your Jewish heritage by obeying cruel and criminal orders to expel Jews from their homes in Gaza and Northern Samaria.
Soldiers of Israel: Stand upright like proud Jews. Take the future into your own hands. Stand boldly with your eternal people, not with your timid and transient government.
