The Palestinian strategy of denying Jewish affiliation with the Holy Land is bound to intensify. Arafat led the new academic school of a Jew-free history of "Palestine", supported by European funded school books and fed to a gullible world media. Abraham, Moses, Jesus and others are portrayed as devout Muslims (just a little before their time).
In the disengagement from Gaza, all biblical and historical connection between Gaza and the Jews was ignored. Ask any reader of a modern newspaper, and they will tell you that Gaza always belonged to the "Palestinians". They would be incredulous to hear about the biblical allocation of the land, of "Rabbi Nathan of Gaza", or even that the modern Jewish settlement was built on land stolen from no-one.
Where will the next ideological "battleground" be? One might assume Jerusalem. In fact, I suspect that the Palestinians view the battle over Jerusalem as pretty much won. The Temple Mount is being excavated by the Waqf, with the rubble disposed of in a fashion that deliberately destroys archeological treasures that may show a Jewish presence from Temple times. Not a word of concern from any quarter. Jews are almost excluded from all areas near the Temple, and if they go up to the mount, they cannot move their lips, just in case they might pray. The Europeans deliberately treat East Jerusalem as an integral part of the Palestinian State they are planning. Aid money cannot be distributed to "wealthy" Israel, but programs in East Jerusalem are carefully included in every package given to the Palestinian Authority.
The next battleground is shaping up to be Hebron. The 'city of the fathers' where Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Rebecca and Leah are buried above the legendary resting place of Adam and Eve, is one of the oldest near continuous Jewish settlements. For a short period, Arab pogroms in 1929 managed to make the city "Judenrein". The six-day war in 1967 made it possible for Jews to live there again, and we have returned to Hebron and the neighbouring suburb of Kiryat Arba.
Of course, together with the recent conversion to Islam of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Palestinians are busy rewriting the modern history of the city too. The latest is the setting up of two trailers on the ancient Jewish cemetery. The buildings are said to be the fore-runner of a school. What better way to deny Jewish connection? Can you imagine the furore when Jews object to an Arab school? And the Jewish cemetery will, of course, be relegated by the media to be a "claim".
The time to protest is now.
